Week 1

CIM 115.1 Milestone 1

Looking into game changers. I don’t know if the term game changer is defined enough. Where do I draw the line between something setting a precedent or being a “game changer”. Personally I measure game changers in terms of relative success. While some companies may have done something “first” that does not make it the source of changing the landscape. For example, the internet existed for the longest time as a medium only accessible to the tech savvy “nerds” until the first dial up routers became accessible to the public. From there the internet exploded into what it is today. So the internet may have existed, but it did not change how we consume media until it was successfully made available to the general populace via dial up modem/routers and later broadband.

We are to look into game changers of the past for my first assignment. Currently I’m looking at:-

-          Valve (in particulatar Steam)

-          Spotify

-          Chromecast (successor of MiraCast)

The lecture intoduced steaming services and their rise over pay per view services or hard copies.

Going forward I’m looking to break down how valve and it’s infrastructure affected the rest of the industry and led the way for all other remote/streaming/internet based platforms.
